Standard mail
Letterboxes for standard mail are situated at the main entrance on Grattan Street. These letterboxes serve the majority of apartments and shops in the complex. The townhouses on Grattan Street and apartments on Grattan Place have their own letterboxes.
Maintenance of individual letterboxes (including keys/locks and repairs) is a responsibility of owners. Maintenance of the letterbox area and the common infrastructure is a responsibility of the Owners Corporation.
Security of main entrance and letterboxes
It is an unfortunate reality that there are many thieves in and around Carlton. Unlike more modern buildings, 101 Grattan Street does not have a double entry, and as such the letterboxes are publicly accessible. As a consequence, the letterboxes are often targeted by thieves.
The Owners Corporation Committee are working to improve security in the building. Recent works have included reinforcing the pedestrian and car park entry gates. These works have significantly reduced unauthorised access to the complex. Residents are nevertheless encouraged to ensure all gates are properly closed and locked after entering or exiting the complex.
The Committee is reviewing options to improve security in the main entrance and letterbox area. Options under consideration include moving the letterboxes behind the main gate, installing a double gate entry system with new intercom panel, or replacing the current letterboxes with a stronger alternative.
In the meantime, residents may consider re-directing mail to the Carlton South Post Office – particularly for sensitive mail.
Parcel deliveries
Parcel theft is a significant problem in Carlton, and our building is no exception.
If you are expecting a delivery please make sure that you pick up the item from the foyer area and do not leave the parcels there for an extended period of time.
Residents can support each other by moving parcels away from the visible foyer area. Good neighbourly spirit will limit parcels and other thefts from the building.
Residents are encouraged to use the free Australia Post ‘Parcel Collect Service’. Carlton South Post Office is a short walk from the building and the Parcel Collect service will ensure parcels are not stolen (and avoid missed deliveries).
